Day 324: Discouraged

Well it's Thursday and I haven't worked out at all yet this week. I've been so busy with freelance work which is a good thing, but at the same time, When I have to work until 1am in the morning, I am not sure where to find the time to workout.

I'm feeling a little discouraged and seem to go through this when I get really busy at work and with freelancing.

Hmmmm...

  1. I know what you mean. Work has a way of interfering with one's best intentions. I remember eating fast food or boxed food after a long day because I was just too tired to cook or even shop for good food. The only way around that is to plan ahead. If your goal is working out, I guess you still have to do that.

I'm currently reading a book by Drs. Volek and Phinney called "The Art and Science of Low Carbohydrate Performance". It's about keto-adaptation for athletes which makes them fuel with fat instead of the standard carbohydrate, making it very easy for them to burn body fat. It is quite fascinating. The book was only $9 at Amazon. I thought you might find it interesting since you are into working out.

  2. Suzie B...You are a great inspiration with all your posts here. It's good to know that I'm not the only one who is dealing with ups and downs. Thank you!!

  3. Keep posting the weight and stats, I suggest, because when you get back on track and you move forward, the retrograde will make it even sweeter and it will remind you how hard you're working.

  4. Hang in there! There's an inversion, freezing cold temps and a heavy workload. You are facing some real obstacles. My advice (since you aske, hehe) -

Get back to it, take small steps.
Sometimes we have a picture in our head and if we don't follow that perfectly, we think we've failed. Do 10 minutes of some activity. Any conditioning will help prepare you.

Two summers ago, I trained for a Half Ironman Triathlon (1.2 mile swim, 56 mile bike and 13.1 mile run). I had never done any race near that distance before. The training schedule was really heavy - and being the YW pres, a part time job, kids and Sam being the Stake YM Pres, we were so busy already-- it was hard to make time for the training. I didn't follow the training plan perfectly- I even crashed on my bike 7 weeks before the race and hurt myself badly. I had to force myself to cut my training way down and do other activities. BUT I kept at it, and did shorter training days and completely different activities (Yoga, Jazzercize, walking) when it would work with my schedule. My point is, I finished the race and had a really great experience.

You have been so inspiring and these challenges are a normal part of making a big goal. You are doing GREAT!!!

    1. How did you do all that training and the race...and everything else? Very sneaky...I wasn't aware.

  5. I think this will work with nutrition goals as well. You can commit to one goal during heavy work days, like getting plenty of water in daily, or not eating past 8:30 or something like that - just so you can keep moving forward.
